Archaeologists excavating at Sunken Village site on Sauvie Island
Welcome to SHPO's Archaeological Services. Currently, a few changes are being made to our website to better serve you. In the two columns below this section can be found web links to key pages and various types of documents.

Under "Technical Information" you can quickly locate information routinely used by professional archaeologists, our partner agencies and Oregon's tribes.

Under "Getting Involved in Archaeology" you will find links to educational topics regarding archaeology in Oregon.

IMPORTANT SURVEY!

The Oregon Heritage Commission has launched an assessment of the status of Oregon heritage and archaeological resources, including the threats they face. The assessment will provide a fact-based foundation for new long-range, statewide strategies for heritage.

In addition to compiling existing data found in diverse locations, the assessment includes online and downloadable surveys. Among those being surveyed are archaeologists, archivists, museums, cemeteries, certified local governments, and preservationists.
