Many park properties were once privately owned and homesteads dotted the landscape.
Settlers from the late 1800s and early 1900s depended on fruit orchards and vegetable
gardens to meet their family needs. Numerous varieties were planted to ensure a lengthy
harvest season, and fruit was stored in cold cellars to add much-desired flavor to
